Rehabing your horse after EPM

Ground Work

Rehabilitating a horse post-EPM recovery requires a gentle and structured approach. Here are three simple exercises to aid in their recovery:

1. **Ground Work**: Begin with groundwork to help rebuild your horse's confidence and coordination. Simple exercises like leading in circles and backing up can enhance their balance and focus. Gradually increase the complexity by incorporating obstacles to encourage problem-solving and agility.

Walking Under Saddle

 2. **Walking Under Saddle**: Once your veterinarian gives the go-ahead, introduce short, controlled walks under saddle. Start with 10-15 minutes on soft ground, focusing on straight lines and gentle turns. This low-impact exercise helps strengthen core muscles and improves overall stability.

Lateral Movements

3. **Lateral Movements**: Incorporate lateral movements, such as leg yields or shoulder-in, to promote flexibility and strengthen the horse's hindquarters. These exercises enhance muscle engagement and improve coordination, which is essential for a recovering horse.
